Patricia Nanteza
Uganda
Cofounder and director of WePlanet Africa (originally known as RePlanet Africa) - offshoot of WePlanet (aka RePlanet), a primarily European campaign for GMOs, synthetic food and nuclear power. Nanteza has been professionally promoting GM crops since 2015, when she also joined the inaugural Alliance for Science training course in promoting GM crops. She went on to become the director of training at the Alliance, which is funded by the Gates Foundation to promote GM crops, especially in Africa. As the Alliance's director for Africa, she also helped run local PR training courses in Kenya on the best ways to promote GM crops. An Alliance for Science blog calls Nanteza "Uganda's ag biotech communications queen", while CropLife International - the farm chemical and biotech industry trade body - named her one of its "Female FoodHeroes" for being such "a huge advocate for biotech crops". Nanteza was almost certainly recruited to head WePlanet Africa by Mark Lynas, WePlanet's co-founder, who is also employed by the Alliance for Science. Nanteza attended the UN Cop28 climate conference to promote nuclear power courtesy of the nuclear industry lobby Net Zero Nuclear.

Its reputation was severely damaged n 1999 when it issued one of four reports claiming GM foods are safe (consultees included Monsanto and Zeneca) just days after Arpad Pusztai's research results showing harm from GM foods were made public. After reading the report, George Monbiot wrote, "This is perhaps the most asinine report on biotechnology ever written. The stain it leaves on the Nuffield Council's excellent reputation will last for years." Derek Burke, Mike Gale, Brian Heap, and Michael Lipton were all members of the Working Party who produced the report. The contributions of Ed Dart and John Hillman were among those acknowledged. Derek Burke, Mike Gale and Michael Lipton were three of the five members who produced a follow up report in 2003.
