Press release from March Against Monsanto

On Saturday 23rd May 2015, millions of people around the world will take part in the Annual March Against Monsanto and due to this London March Against Monsanto are hosting a demonstration in Richmond Terrace, Westminster between 12.00-5.00pm. The event will consist of talks, by representatives from a broad range of organisations from War on Want to GM Freeze speaking on various topics related to Monsanto and the GM industry, and entertainment from some of London’s most renowned singers, rappers, and spoken word artists.

Biotech-industry concerns are manifold. A pressing issue for UK consumers is that of GM animal feed. People have rejected GM food, and now the biotech industry makes its profits in this country from GM animal feed - a back door for getting GM into the food chain. This affects a high percentage of non-organic meat and dairy produce. The problem is that people cannot choose to avoid it because it is not labelled. At the moment, those few who can afford it, can buy organic and probably avoid GMOs.  However, this option will soon be irrevocably removed by cross-contamination - GMOs and organic crops cannot co-exist.

The Annual March against Monsanto is a peaceful demonstration against the GMO industry and the actions of organisations like Monsanto. Our demonstration is public and open to all and although we value the support of all those attending, we would also like to emphasise the fact that the views held by those in attendance may not necessarily reflect those held by the organisers, speakers, and artists.

The event is organised by Mizan the Poet, a spoken word artist and activist and Christopher Prince, an economic, environmental, social justice, and pro-democracy activist.
