1. Argentina: Another RTRS company charged with slave-like treatment of workers, tax evasion
Article in Spanish: http://www.lavoz.com.ar/node/316037

GMWatch comment: Argentine authorities have charged agribusiness company Pioneer SA, a subsidiary of GM/chemical company DuPont, with human trafficking, keeping workers in slave-labour conditions in its facility in Cordoba, and tax evasion, according to an article in an Argentine newspaper. Pioneer and DuPont are members of AAPRESID, which in turn is a member of the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS). RTRS will launch its "responsible soy" greenwash label this spring.

This report follows a similar case of GM seed company and RTRS member Nidera being accused by the authorities of keeping workers in slave-like conditions and tax evasion. Nidera was reportedly fined, though it is unclear on which particular charge(s).

2. Author of pamphlet exposing Germany's biotech nexus is in prison for decontaminating GM crops

Recently we announced the publication of the English translation of the German pamphlet, 'Organised Irresponsibility', which exposes the close networks of government, industry and PR people based in Germany who promote GM.

We've just been told that the author of the pamphlet, Jorg Bergstedt, is in prison. He is serving a six-month sentence for "liberating" a field of GM barley, a field trial of the University of Giessen. He will be released around 20 March.

Jorg's blog, in German, is here.
