Global action: Stop genetically engineered trees

Long-term impacts to ecosystems and human health are unknown

We have only a few days – until Jan 26 – to submit comments to the US Department of Agriculture rejecting their plan to allow the release of genetically engineered (GE) trees into wild forests in the US - and ultimately Canada.

Right now it appears that the pro-GMO lobby is outnumbering the voices of caution, and it's crucial to turn this around.

Long-term impacts to ecosystems and human health from GE trees that can live for 100s of years are completely unknown and threaten forests impacted by logging, introduced pests and pathogens, urban sprawl, and climate change. It is a "massive, irreversible experiment" with our forests.

Please submit comments via the USDA website (you can comment whichever country you are in):

SAMPLE COMMENT (but please use your own words):

Dear USDA,

The unregulated and intentional release of GE trees in the US would irreversibly contaminate wild forests and threaten successful restoration efforts projects focused on wild trees in the US and Canada.

Long-term impacts to ecosystems and human health from GE trees that can live for 100s of years are completely unknown and threaten forests impacted by logging, introduced pests and pathogens, urban sprawl, and climate change. It is a "massive, irreversible experiment" with our forests.

For the above reasons, and many more not mentioned here, the GE chestnut tree must not be allowed to be released into wild forests.
