Public meeting in Berlin 8 June
 
There will be a public expert meeting: "Cancer from glyphosate - how dangerous is the herbicide?" on 8 June 2015 from 11 am in the German Bundestag (Parliament) in Berlin, hosted by the German Green Party.
 
The most widely used weedkiller glyphosate was classified as “probably carcinogenic to humans” by the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in March this year. Analyses show that the poison is present in our food, in the urine of city residents and in the environment.

For a long time glyphosate has been suspected to cause cancer, birth defects and other health problems. These are most clearly seen in the soybean and corn growing areas of South America, where the herbicide is sprayed on genetically modified plants in large amounts.

However, the German Institute for Risk Assessment BfR, responsible for the EU risk assessment,  sees no evidence of carcinogenic potential.

The German Greens say - 

In case of scientific uncertainty it is a political decision to take precaution and protect people.
