Move marks shift to “natural ingredients”

US-based confectionary giant Hershey’s will remove GM ingredients from its Milk Chocolate and Kisses by the end of the year, according to a report for Food Navigator and a published pledge by the company.

The company will also ditch the emulsifier PGPR and artificial vanillin for the brands as it shifts to “simple ingredients”.

Hershey’s initiative comes just days after Nestle USA committed to removing artificial colours and flavours in its confectionary range.

Hershey has been under pressure to remove or label GMOs for years.

For the company’s Milk Chocolate and Kisses, it will move to natural vanilla, non-GMO sugar and milk from cows that have not been treated with the GM growth hormone rbST.
