BRINGING CHRISTMAS CHEER TO THE VIGIL
Highland News w/e 22/12/01

THEY are among a dedicated few for whom Christmas and New Year promises to be cold and cheerless.

So the Highland News Group - which regularly reports on the activities of the anti-GM protesters at Munlochy - decided to play Father Christmas and visit the vigil site with a few little Christmas comforts.

Reporter Angela Jones - our GM special correspondent - slipped easily into the role, delivering mince pies, crackers and a warming nip or two of whisky to help the campaigners face their yuletide ordeal.

The environmentalists have been monitoring the GM winter oilseed rape crop at Tullich Farm, since farmer Jamie Grant began planting in August. And the team members have no intention of breaking their round-the-clock watch for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Anthony Jackson, a member of the vigil, said: "We are sure to have a good Christmas up here at the vigil site.  "As long as the crop is still in the ground we will continue to monitor the trial around the clock."

"Also, it shows our level of commitment and we would still encourage people to come up and see us, to sign the petition and to continue to write letters to the local MSPs."

With Christmas in mind, a group of local musicians have got together to produce a five track CD of anti-GM songs, which they hope will be a number one hit.

Organiser Rob Gibson, a GM campaigner from Evanton, said every penny made on the sale of the album, entitled Oilseed Raped? will raise funds for the Munlochy vigil.

Rob said: "Lots of people can show their support by visiting the anti-GM information centre at Munlochy and when they travel about, play the CD, boost sales and help us make both the vigil and the CD a big hit."

Tracks include, No To GMO, written by Fiona Rodger and her band B B Black Sheep, Rob's own Munlochy Vigil Song and Trouble Ahead by Joost and his band Ferral.  The CD is on sale at Record Rendezvous and Highland Wholefoods in Inverness, Nairn Post Office, Macleod Organics in Ardersier and the Phoenix CommunityStores in Findhorn.
