NOTE: Although BASF's GM crop division are leaving Europe, BASF is still planning to hold GM field trials in three different European countries in 2012. In response to an enquiry about what would happen to any ongoing field trials, Ralf-Michael Schmidt, Vice-President of the BASF Group, says they are planning trials of a GM potato "in Sweden, the Netherlands and in Germany". BASF's previous GM trials proved highly controversial.

Thank you for your interest in BASF. Mr. Marcinowski asked me to answer your question in his name.

So, presently we have no ongoing field trials in the EU. We have to finalise the mandatory post-trial monitoring in Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland.

For 2012 we are committed to conduct further field trials for 1 potato variety as we received questions from EFSA regarding our earlier submitted dossier. Those trials are planned to be conducted in Sweden, the Netherlands and in Germany. Trial permits are valid and we are in the selection phase for the final sites.

Don´t hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.

Best regards,

Ralf-Michael Schmidt
