COMMENT from Dr Brian John: Today there is huge coverage in the world media for the unpublished research in Argentina by Prof. Carrasco and others, showing that brain, intestinal and heart defects in fetuses are associated with very low doses of glyphosate/Roundup. The work is on the embryos of various amphibian species.

200 million litres of glyphosate are used in Argentina GM soy production every year...

Since EU Directive 2001/18 insists that the INDIRECT environmental damage associated with GM crop plantings must also be assessed and acted upon through the use of the Precautionary Principle, it is now incontrovertible that RR crops are damaging to health and the environment -- and it is disingenuous and reprehensible for the EU to allow them in feed and food imports while the damage is being suffered elsewhere, by other communities, in the regions that do grow RR crops without proper regulation.

COUNTRYSIDE NO LONGER SYNONYMOUS WITH HEALTHY LIVING
http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=45974

EXTRACTS: BUENOS AIRES, Mar 4 (IPS) - Once a serene refuge from urban pollution and chaos, the Argentine countryside has now become a place fraught with risks for many local residents. The massive use of pesticides on fields of soy, the country's top export, is creating a "health catastrophe" in the rural sector, environmentalists warn.

"Thirty years ago, living in the countryside was synonymous with healthy living, but now it is suicidal..."
