This major event in Tamilnadu, India, is expected to assemble farmers from all the South Indian States at Tanjavore to declare their "Right to a GM Free India".

It is being organised in support of the Coalition for a GM Free India by farmers, traders and consumer movements in Tamilnadu and supported by organisations from other states as well - see list at end.

Dear all,

We wish to invite you to the Indian Farmers Day Meeting at Tanjavore on 23rd December 2006. It is held at RAJ MAHAL THIRUMANA MANDAPAM, Tholkappiar Square, (Near Thomban Kudisai) Thanjavur. The Highlight of this days meeting is a Seminar, Public Rally and Public Meeting. The main issue being highlighted this year is the Genetically Modified Crops in our Fields and Food and why Farmers Traders and Consumers are coming together to say NO to GM crops and Keep India GM Free. This is being jointly organised by Farmers, Traders and Consumers and supported by various organisations in South India and other states as well.

Tamil Nadu Farmers, members of FEDCOT (Federation of Consumer Organisation Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry) and representatives of Tamil Nadu Traders Federation joint hands together to celebrate the National Farmer's Day on 23rd December in Thanjavur, 'the granary of South India'. Social activists and leaders of farmers' organisations from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Pondicherry are to participate in the historic event. The members of farmers' organisations irrespective of their political affiliations are to meet in the mammoth programme and give a clarion call to protect the interests of farmers, traders and consumers of the country.

Dr. Devinder Sharma, Director, Centre for Food Security and Biotechnology delivers the keynote address.

Prof. P. Duraisingam, Chairman, Consumer Co-ordination Council, New Delhi gives the special address.

The programmes are to be held as per the agenda overleaf and we solicit your earnest presence to strengthen the solidarity of the farmers in the country and ensure poison free, chemical free nutritious food to all.
