Tribute held in Dhaka today

We remember the Bangladeshi journalist Faisal Rahman with the utmost respect and affection. His sudden and untimely death on 9 March at the young age of 35 came as a shock to those who knew him.

Faisal gave generously of his time and local knowledge to help GMWatch cut through the propaganda surrounding the performance of Bt brinjal in Bangladesh – for example, see this. His attention to detail and faith in the power of truth to speak loudest were impeccable.

The documentary film that he helped to make, Bt Brinjal in the Dock, can be seen here.

Friends and well-wishers of journalist Faisal Rahman Kishore, who met an untimely death following a heart attack on March 9, will hold a discussion commemorating him at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the city [Dhaka] on Tuesday.

Kishore, a sub-editor of daily Dhaka Tribune, died in the city at the age of 35.

Chhobir Lorai, a platform of radical film movement which intends to bring positive changes in the tradition of Bangladeshi films, organised the programme to be held at 5:30 pm.

Faisal Rahman was actively involved in film movement during his short life. He was a member of Chalachitra Andolon in his student life and one of the organisers of Chhobir Lorai after that.

In collaboration with around 30 activists and journalists, including Zaeed Aziz, he produced a documentary film, “Bt Brinjal in the Dock,” which is about the genetically modified venture in Bangladesh.

Before joining The Dhaka Tribune, Faisal also worked for news agency United News of Bangladesh (UNB), The New Age and The Independent.
