Commission may produce revised proposal

The planned vote on the re-authorisation of glyphosate did not take place today.

According to EU sources, the Commission did not call for a vote, as it knew from a tentative vote that it did not have support from a qualified majority to re-approve glyphosate.
 
Nineteen member states would have voted in favour, 2 against (France and Italy), and 7 would have abstained.
 
The Commission now has the option to come up with a revised proposal to swing Germany in favour. If no agreement is reached by the end of June, the licence will expire and glyphosate will have to be withdrawn from use within 6 months.
