Victory against Nestle: Take Action Against Tiger Brands/Purity
Mariam and Zakiyya
African Centre for Biosafety, May 10 2013
Nestle is on record as saying that "it took consumer preferences into consideration and therefore all its infant cereals in South Africa used non-GM maize".
This can only be a result of the action that so many of you took last year after we released the results showing that Nestle's Cerelac Honey contained 77.65% GM Maize. This is a victory indeed!
On the other hand, Tiger Brands, which makes Purity, (tests conducted last week revealed that Purity's Cream of Maize tested positive as containing 56.25% GM maize; and Purity's Purity Baby First tested positive as containing 71.47% GM maize) said Purity baby foods were safe and presented no health risks! Tiger Brands had undertaken to label all products which contained more than 5 percent GM from December this year.
TIME TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST TIGER BRANDS/PURITY
We really need to put pressure on Tiger Brands to change it's GM policy. If you haven't signed the petition to get Tiger Brands to stop using any GM Maize or GM Soya in it's baby food products then please do so now. Please encourage others to do so as well.
